Fiverr Website Design – Hiring a Website Designer

(Please note: The site owner may receive an affiliate commission as a result of making a purchase after clicking an affiliate link.)

When using Fiverr for Website Design you need to make a few decisions before you choose a website designer.

First Steps

You probably have in mind what type of website you are planning to get.

At Fiverr they have experts that specialize in various areas of website design.

To begin with, navigate to https://fiverr.com.

Like many large marketplace websites Fiverr is organized into categories.

For website design, select ‘Programming and Tech’.

WordPress Blog Design

For this example, we will say we want a WordPress website.

Most people start building a blog as their first website as this is the easiest type of website to manage.

As you build out your blog, there is no reason why you can’t attach an online e-commerce store to it at a later time.

Click the WordPress link. Fiverr will now attempt to make your search easier by asking you ‘Do need help with a new or existing website?’.

We will select a ‘new website’.

Fiverr again asks, ‘What do you need help with’?

Choose ‘Full Website Creation’, as we want them to install a theme and the necessary plugins.

We want a website with which our only job is to update the website with new posts, change the menu labels, and post some widgets (banners), some time in the future when we have learned how WordPress works and have advanced our knowledge.

Consider Your Budget

As newbies the more you spend the better the theme will be and the better the quality of work will be.

Fiverr then asks, ‘What is your budget’?

We will choose $105+.

If you choose to spend less the website designer will spend less time setting up your website and you will end up trying to build it yourself.

Time Considerations

Then Fiverr asks, ‘When do you need it by’

For the best result, we will say up to 7 days.

If you need it sooner select what option describes your situation.

Finding A Fiverr Seller

The next thing you need to do is choose a Fiverr seller.

If you are a native English speaker, ideally you would choose a native English speaker.

If you choose someone who’s second language is English, you may begin the project and have difficulty communicating what needs to be done.

Getting What You Want

You may not know how to build the website but you know what you want your website to look like.

Designers who are not using up to date designs regardless of price should be disregarded.

It may take you some time to find a theme that you like.

If the seller doesn’t have any examples of their work or a portfolio, it is best not to work with them as you don’t know what you’re getting.

Price should not be a deciding factor.

Anyone can charge $500 – $5000 to create a website.

What we are looking for is quality work and professional descriptions to give us an idea of the quality of work and the ability of the seller to communicate.

The Importance of a Mobile Website

As most people use mobile devices, it is important that the Fiverr seller states that they will build a website that is mobile friendly.

Some people think it is a given that WordPress themes are mobile friendly. This is not always the case.

Working Toward Your Preferred Design

When choosing a design the designer will not create the website for you from scratch.

They will have selected a theme to work with and will add images to that theme to create your website.

But they may customize it to fit your preference.

This is why it is better that you choose a designer that gives you a selection of themes to choose from or you have an idea whose website you want your website to look like.

The exception to the rule is a high-end designer who won’t post a portfolio of work online, as they don’t want other web designers to emulate their work.

High end designers often work within the ‘Pro Verified’ category.

If you have the budget for this ($100s or even $1000s) it is worth it for the ROI (return on investment).

It may be an idea to go to your favorite blogs and decide which blogs use the theme you like.

Then this will make your job of finding a designer easier as some Fiverr sellers clone websites themes, and you can have your own design elements added to make the theme yours.

The Shortlist

On the left menu, you can select whether you want Responsive Design, level two sellers – which will mean that the seller has some experience, the seller’s language – English, and the seller’s location – United States.

Once you have made these selections you are left with a smaller list. Change the selections for different results.

What is left at this time are 3 designers from the United States.

In this instance, the web designers from the United States are not using quality themes.

I have chosen to select ‘Romania’ as the selected location.

This Fiverr seller is a level 2 seller, has a good selection of themes to select from, and has 231 feedback reviews.

Getting The Gig

This is visible under the header, next to the five star rating.

I do not endorse this seller, but the prices are reasonable and she displays a large portfolio of themes to choose from.

On the right-hand-side, the price of the Basic Package is about USD$100 but it should be displayed in your currency.

This very reasonable but before selecting a package it is important to read the sellers description of the gig.

In the description, she says she has more than 10 years experience creating websites, optimizing sites to appear on the first page of Google, and that her designs look good on any device.

Below this is the FAQ section.

Next you need to evaluate the gigs (packages).

There are always significant differences between the lowest price gig and the Premium package.

In this instance, the Premium Package uses a paid theme of your choosing whereas the Basic and Standard packages use free themes chosen by the seller.

The Premium gig is a package designed according to your needs.

Before selecting a gig make they offer unlimited revisions as this is a service you are paying for and you want to get your website designed as you specify.

The next thing to do is to contact the Fiverr seller to discuss what you want with them to see if they understand and whether they can deliver.

It all depends what you want and your budget.

If you need to set up a simple blog there is no need to spend $1,000s on web design as you are entering the world of blogging, and it is the content that matters.
